As one of the main components of building energy consumption, the operating energy consumption of chillers should be fully considered in the design stage. Due to the difficulty in obtaining the energy efficiency characteristic curves of chillers under different operating conditions in the design stage, the current operating energy consumption of chillers is mainly calculated by using the graded energy efficiency under different load rates or the comprehensive energy efficiency of chillers for simplified calculation, often ignoring the influence of the operating conditions and outdoor environment on the energy efficiency of chillers. In this paper, the performance characteristics of centrifugal chillers are analysed, and the performance curves are fitted and verified in combination with the energy efficiency data of centrifugal chillers under variable operating conditions provided by mainstream manufacturers in the market. Taking a building as an example, the operating energy consumption of chillers under different energy consumption calculation methods is compared and analysed.
